I was recently asked, for a work thing, what the soundtrack to my life was. That was a tough question, especially as I love a wide variety of music. But ultimately there are some songs that resonate with you through all those difficult, interesting or wonderful moments in life.

So here is the start to the soundtrack of my life….

I was in a really bad relationship from the mid 1990s to the mid 200s. Ten years in total but I should have bailed out at year number 5. It was such a bad end to everything and it dragged on for years. I’ll go into it much later, but this was the song that got me through.

Ultimately, to my reading of this song, it speaks of people who are really having it tough. Whilst I was having a tough time, I recognised that there were those who were having a horrific time of it. That isn’t to minimise my suffering or to grade peoples suffering on some sort of scale. But it kept a lot of the shit I was dealing with in perspective.

As a song, what’s not to like? I like a bit of ska plus the punkier/rockier elements really lift this track. Plus some slick suits. Whenever I hear this, I am back there, in the shit struggling to see a light at the end of a very dark tunnel.
