Like most people of the 1990s, Denis Leary came into prominence for those short fillers that used to appear on MTV. Then there was Denis’ comedy special “No Cure for Cancer”. I laughed a lot. It is a great comedy special. Then Bill Hicks came along, then there were claims of joke stealing. As someone once said, Denis’ performance is all about the energy. Anyway, the original version of ‘Asshole’, as part of the No Cure special, is much better in my opinion. I don’t think it gains anything with the big budget production values. Anyway, this always makes me smile, and think of the 1990s, which was probably the zenith of human civilisation. We just didn’t know it at the time.
