We’re all creative people. We might not always realise it, but we are all incredibly creative. Whether it is utilising the traditional artists tools such as pencils, brushes or the camera, or even finding a solution to that every-day problem we have; we’re all very creative at heart. As we get older, a lot of us forget that being creative should be part of our daily lives. Maybe it should be a large part of our daily lives. As the harsh realities of existince crush in on us, especially in adulthood, creativity and creative expression gets forced onto the farthest of back burners. That is such a crime. I have been a victim of that crime. However, “Steal Like An Artist” is not only a great read in terms of fuelling your creativity, but it also reminds us that we should look at those artists who once inspired us and follow in their footsteps. By doing so, we add our little twist on the creativity story and if we continue to follow in their path, we start to branch out and create our own path. Our own expression of creativity.
I used to limit my creativity because whatever I created never lived up to the creative vision in my head. But as someone extremely wise said to me recently, it’s about the process irrespective of the final product. We’re meant to fall in love with process and not grade the result. I have gifted this book to those I have felt may have been in a similar situation to myself. It is one of those inspiring books to pick up, flick to a page and then jump off into your own creative expression. Austin’s other books on creativity are also a joy to read. Austin’s books are available in all good bookshops but you can also order it here.
