This is a bit of a controversial one, but lock in and bear with me…
Why is this controversial? Well it is the use of the word “spiritual”. Now, this is a great book and in reality, I think the use of “spirituality” in the title is a bit tenuous. However, the author does tie in why the use of the phrase “Fuck It”, has some spiritual provenence. Also, the concept of following a path and the ideas of having a purpose for your life runs through the entire book.
Now, when I first read this book I had been through a very tough time and I was in a real dead end job earning just over the minimum wage. I was really confused about a lot of stuff in my life and I was very, very lost. This book taught me about letting go, removing attachment to situations or outcomes. Just by saying ‘Fuck It’. A lot. I am in a much better place because of this book. In a better place both materially, ironically spiritually, but more importantly I am in a mentally stronger place.
Someone recently asked me what my favourite self help book was (and I have read a fair few), and this is it. Simply because, it really worked for me. I have re-gifted this very rarely (but have a few times) as the use of the word “spiritual” does put some people off. But for the right person, if you’re willing to wade through this, it is a powerful book (in my humble opinion). Obviously it is available at all good bookshops and my slight gripe is that all the subesquent books are a variation on the Fuck It theme. I think if you work through the original book you don’t need the subsequent books (fuck it, unless you want to buy all the subsequent books, have at it). But I say Fuck It to the subsequent books. (See what I did there?)
