Catching the last Rays of Civilisation #9 – Living in Uncertainty and Uncertain Times

Hey, how’s things? Where’s your head at? Holding it together? Good. Here, I’m back on the road, being all digital nomad and stuff. Checking in via the mobile connection. Doing The Work. Remotely. Always remote, literally and figuratively. Although, it is uncertain times. One thing I don’t enjoy, is uncertainty. Especially on a personal level. It is tough to swim in the choppy waters, especially without knowing where the shore is. Where is the safety? It’s not just on a personal level, it’s also on a wider level; uncertain times. It seems that as a society we live in very uncertain times. Constantly, uncertain times. So, what to do?

It is worth remembering that the only constant is change. We are always in a state of change. Even when we think things are settled, change is swirling all around us, we just might not have noticed it yet. Which reminds me of the phrase; This Too Shall Pass. The uncertainty, will pass. The feelings of certainty, will pass. We’re always in this state of flux. The feelings of certainty or security, will pass. It’s the ebb and flow. I was also reminded, internally, of the Serenity Prayer. Now, most people only quote the first few lines of the Serenity Prayer, most people might not realise there are a few more lines, however the first few lines are the important ones (in this context), especially in these uncertain times; “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”. I’m no Christian, and I’m not pushing any religion on you, but realising that there are some things we can not change, and recognising that fact is important. We can only change what we can change. The only thing we can really change is how we react to such changes. It’s all internal stuff. It’s how you respond. If we can keep our heads, while others are losing theirs, to paraphrase, the world is yours….
