Hey, what’s up? How ya living? As I cruised along the motorway, I saw something, and maybe perceived something. I cruised along the asphalt river, flanked on both side by the deeps greens of the UK’s summer landscape, and saw all the cars, all the people, all doing their thing, and thought “You’re trapped”. The illusion of freedom is pervasive. Freedom of movement and the belief of making choices, gives you that slight illusion of freedom. But you’re trapped. Trapped by a larger system, trapped by societal constraints, trapped by personal circumstances, trapped by faulty thinking, trapped by cognitive bias, trapped by some many things. You. Me. Us. We’re trapped. It is our personal mission, along with the other missions we might have taken on, to get free or as free as is possible.
Obviously, there might have been some intergalactic warriors in those other vehicles who may have broken free or are more free than anyone else. But I would wager it is the small minority of people. Of course, at first, you have to recognise you’re trapped.
I’ve been temporarily trapped due to to having a medical procedure (The second this year. I’m not falling apart, I’m being re-structured). I can’t bend, lift anything heavy, or pretty much anything we take for granted as everyday actions. This only lasts for a few weeks, but I have felt trapped by the physical constraints. We often don’t notice the restraints the outer world places on us. The programming runs that deep.
However, it is interesting to sit back and watch the illusion of freedom work its magic. Get free. Your future self will thank you.
