CATCHING THE LAST RAYS OF CIVILISATION #11 :: survival mode

Hey, it’s you! Go to see ya! You survived Christmas and New Year? Kudos, fellow traveller, kudos to you. Apologies for a protracted absence, but life has a way of slipping off the handbrake and speeding on, whilst you’re trying to hang-on for dear life. Last year was a hectic ride and I only feel I am just drawing breath, and having the time to sit down and take a look at where I have ended up and more importantly, where I am going to go next. 2023 (and many years previously) were a classic case of ‘survival mode’, for me. Which is fine for a wee while. We all have periods where we are just doing what we have to do to survive, but it is not a long term strategy. It is exhausting and the body takes a bit of a battering. It is important, as soon as practicable, to get out of survival mode and into growth mode. Actually getting to the point of seeing where you go next and not just fighting your way forward.

It is hard not to slip into survival mode based on the events around us. It is easy to get swept a long as a response to the drama of the world and other peoples personal dramas. The trick is to hold space for yourself and move in the direction you want to go in. Holding space for yourself. It is so important. Plus plotting your plan out. Get that stuff on paper. Where are you going? What do you want to achieve? Write it down in a book. Pen/pencil on paper. Look at it every day. Do The Work. You have to Do The Work. Yes, you’ll have days where the world encroaches on your calm. The forces of chaos will come to visit, but just re-focus, get back to the plan, look at it, re-absorb it, and move forward. Always move forward.
