If you lived in the UK and you were alive in the 1980s, there is absolutely no way you didn’t hear the “Mr Soft” advert. Now, most people think the soundtrack to the advert is the song “Mr Soft” by Steve Harley. It kind of is, but it is isn’t quite. So the company (Trebor Mints) couldn’t get the rights to the song so they hired a ‘sound-alike’ to create a version of the song with changed lyrics to tie-in more with the art of selling chewy-mints. Now using sound-alikes was quite a common thing in the 1980s it seemed, as the fees for licensing songs was too prohibitive. Anyway, the original song is a delight.
