Catching The Last Rays of Civilisation #26 :: Loose Ends

Hey, it’s you! Good to see you. I hope it’s all going as well as can be expected in these crazy times. Are you holding it down? Are you dealing with it? Self-care is where it’s at in this maelstrom of crazy that is this year’s seasons of “Humanity”.

I was in a book. Well, I was mentioned. I was no more than a passing footnote, but that’s fine. My involvement was minimal to the overall story. The book is “Gene Burners” by Constantina Oomen. I used to receive “death threats” by the subject of this book. I wasn’t the only one who received these threats. It seems like a lifetime ago, now. Funny how far you can travel, metaphorically, in such a short space of time. I think that was around 2016. Time is the silent sculptor of our existence, shaping us with invisible hands as the seconds slip into minutes, days, and years. We may cling to the illusion of permanence, believing ourselves to be the same person we were yesterday, but the truth is that every moment alters us—sometimes subtly, sometimes irrevocably. The child becomes the adult, the dreamer the realist, the wound the scar. Even in stillness, time flows through us like a river, eroding old convictions and depositing new understandings in their place. Resistance is futile, for change is not merely a consequence of time but its very essence. We are not stones in its current but leaves upon its surface, carried forward, transformed, and ultimately reminded that to exist is to evolve. The only true constant is the inevitability of our own metamorphosis.

Talking of books, I’m making a series of marketing guides I wrote available on my marketing blog Digital Marketing for Creatives. I was going to publish them on Amazon, but I’m kind of over them, if you get my drift. I loved the writing, and I enjoyed writing them, but I don’t think I want to invest a huge amount of time promoting them and I’m moving in another direction for my next book project. If that might be of interest to you, why not pop along. I’ll be releasing them weekly alongside my marketing tips for creatives.

I have delivered a lot of digital marketing training over the years, and it just infuriates me how much BS marketing advice there is out there. It can be really straightforward if you stick to the basics and not get swept a long with the tech and software. If you’d like some digital marketing advice, pop over to my blog and subscribe to receive weekly hints and tips. I’d love to see you over there.

This week has been labelled “Deep Admin Week”. One of things I have really learnt over the last couple of weeks through journalling and general life events is: tying up loose ends. Some things you just can’t tie-up. Maybe that’s because there are events out of your control, or the people involved are delaying things, but generally tying up loose ends is one of my life lessons I will pass on to anyone who is desperate enough to listen.

So, I sat down, drew up a big list of all those annoying things I should have dealt with, listing all those things I was ignoring, packeged it up into a prioritised ‘To-Do’ list, gave it a vague but important sounding title, and in all fairness it has been very effective. I’ve got some stuff done.

That stuff means that a little bit of space has been carved out in my subconscious. Freeing up a little space, within the inner space, is a good thing. Trust me. Try it.

Now, I am sure someone from the Cult of Productivity will say mumble something about time-blocking, but whatever you want to label it, however you want to package it, Deep Admin Week was a success. So much so that I might do a Deep Admin Day every month, just to keep on-top of stuff. Even if it’s just carving out a morning to tie up loose ends, or just tick off those annoying jobs. From journalling, one of the other powerful life lessons I can identify is “The cheapest price is to pay attention”. Which ties in with the above.

That’s it for now. I’m popping an interesitng Life List on Monday, Wednesday is Guilty Pleasures and next Friday I’ll be catching the last rays of civilisation. For notifications, why not subscribe? Either way, I’ll be at the keyboard…
