This is the book that behind “Your Money or Your Life”, is the book I gift the most. This book was a real revelation as it gave a name to my procrastination and my tendency to distract myself: Resistance. Resistance is there whenever we start to express ourselves into any creative endeavour. It’s procrastination, it’s distractions, it’s our inner-critic, it is anything that our minds stir up to stop us fulfilling our creative ambitions.
One of the really nice things about this book is that it is a really quick read. Pressfield guides the reader right to the heart of the matter and provides solutions without wading through chapters of theory. It is almost as if Pressfiled has decided that an overly lengthy book will create some resistance to understanding our creative resistance. Off the back of this book, Pressfield has a number of titles that compliment “The War of Art”, but having read them all, the only other I would recommend is”Turning Pro” (but I have never gifted that one, yet, so go have a look and see if if it something you might find helpful.)
The War of Art can be found here.
