Catching the Last Rays of Civilisation # 4

The stuff we don’t talk about. I am sat in a coffee shop, being all digital nomad, with 8 bamboo spoons jammed on top of one another between my teeth. This has several benefits. Firstly, it is signalling to people not to approach me. What sane person sits with 8 bamboo spoons between their teeth? He must be a psycho. A handsome psycho. But a psycho all the same. The second benefit is that the 8 spoons are acting as a little physio for my jaw muscles. Since my little operation, I have to do some physio for my jaw. Apparently, jamming stuff in your mouth to stretch out the muscles is the way to do it. I currently can’t get past 8, but I am working on it. (I was measuring my progress by the number of chocolate buttons I could get in my mouth, but that’s not healthy, so it’s bamboo spoons. Obviously.)

Why am I telling you stuff like this? Well, because we don’t talk about stuff that actually matters. We act all intellectual discussing the latest international situation, like we’re some foreign affairs analyst, but we don’t really discuss the important issues. Like money, we don’t talk about money enough. Values. Another classic one we don’t discuss. A female friend asked me what my values were. My what? Great question. I had to think about it. Just what do I stand for? What do you actually stand for? Can I create a better synopsis of my values than just “Er, don’t be a dick?”. But it is a great question and a great subject anyone should discuss before getting into a relationship. Are our values compatible?

Medical stuff. We don’t discuss that. Someone confessed to me that sometimes, they use viagra. No big deal, really. Intimacy can be tough, especially in a new relationship, so they needed a pharmaceutical helping hand. So, what? We’re so obsessed with being liked, being accepted, that we shy away from discussing some big stuff. Discussing that stuff helps people. It really does. You really don’t appreciate that just a simple sentence or revelation can help that other person. It might not help directly, it might just get them thinking, they might just pass that little nugget of consideration to someone else, but it does help. These discussions about life’s really crucial things also dissolves the masks that we all inadvertently wear from time to time. I used to wear this mask of being oh-so professional and corporate, because that is what I thought people wanted to see. But it was just a mask. I was just there for the money. I was wearing a mask so people didn’t spot who I really was. Then we get onto imposter syndrome and we’re instantly peeling back the layers of the onion of existence. I digress.

So, as I sit here, with a bamboo laden mouth, I am scheduling content for the vast plethora of platforms I inahbit on the interwebs. At the moment I am scheduling a lot of content around digital marketing. It is such a great facility within WordPress. I can have a long session creating content then leave the scheduling tool to drop those golden nuggets onto my blog. Beautiful! Currently I am scheduling my ‘Top Tool Tuesday’. There are so many great tools that can really help your marketing efforts. I also tend to post a lot of articles, or mini blogs discussing how to utilise some really important marketing techniques. Why not pop across for a visit, I’d love to see you.
